Characteristics

Plants 3–11 cm high, many cm long, with prop roots 3–8 cm long. Culm internodes 1–1.5 mm long. Leaves: sheath 0.8–1 (–1.5) mm long, 3-nerved, glabrous, smooth; ligule a fringe of hairs, 0.2–0.5 mm long; blade 1.8–3.7 (–8.5) mm long, 0.3–0.4 mm wide, subobtuse, coriaceous, stiff, 3-nerved, pilose between the nerves, scabrous on margins. Spikes overtopped and obscured by leaves, subtended by a keeled bract c. 1.5 mm long, usually of 5–6 sessile or subsessile spikelets, 1.6–2.0 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, eglandular; peduncle 0–1 mm long. Glumes much longer than florets (excluding anthers and stigmas), ovate, 1–1.4 mm long, emarginate with two obtuse lobes, muticous, 1-or 3-nerved, ciliate on the upper margins. Lemma broadly elliptic, 0.35–0.5 mm long, obtuse, membranous, 1-nerved. Palea nerveless. Caryopsis broadly ellipsoid, 0.4 mm long, smooth.
