Characteristics

Plants usually 2–5 cm high and many cm long. Culm internodes c. 0.5 mm long. Leaves: sheath 2–3 mm long, strongly 3-nerved, sparsely scaberulous on margins, usually glabrous; ligule a small, thickened, tubercular, glabrous or puberulous ridge; blade 4–5 mm long, 0.4–0.5 mm wide, acute, herbaceous, 3–5-nerved, stiffly hairy and tuberculate. Spikes exserted above the upper leaves, of 5–7 subsessile spikelets, 3–4 mm long, c. 1 mm wide; peduncle 10–30 mm long, glabrous, sparsely glandular. Glumes much exceeding florets, oblong, c. 1 mm long, obtuse, muticous, 1–3-nerved. Lemma lanceolate, c. 0.5 mm long, obtuse, emarginate, subhyaline, 1–3-nerved. Palea nerveless. Caryopsis ellipsoid, c. 0.5 mm long, smooth, glossy.
