Characteristics

Plants 7–11 cm high, forming dense mats several metres long. Culm internodes 1–1.25 mm long, compressed, sometimes ribbed. Leaves: sheath 3–4 mm long, 5–7-nerved, pilose-tuberculate, smooth on the margins; ligule a membrane or tuberculate, glabrous or with hairs less than 0.5 mm long; blade 6–9 mm long, c. 0.75 mm wide, subacute to obtuse, herbaceous, stiff, c. 5-nerved, pilose, scabrous especially on margins. Spikes shortly exserted, of c. 10 sessile or subsessile spikelets, 3–4 mm long and wide; peduncle and rachis pilose to hirsute with tubercle-based hairs, eglandular; peduncle 10–18 mm long. Glumes much exceeding the florets, ovate, 1.5–2 mm long, subacute, entire, muticous, 1-nerved, pilose with simple and tubercle-based hairs. Lemma ovate, c. 0.5 mm long, obtuse, hyaline; nerves 3, ribbed, close together. Palea nerveless. Caryopsis ellipsoid to oblong, c. 0.5 mm long, striate.
