Characteristics

Slender plants, 5–15 cm high, many cm long. Culm internodes c. 1 mm long. Leaves: sheath c. 5 mm long, c. 5-nerved, ciliate at apex, smooth or scaberulous with almost smooth margins; ligule a fringe of hairs, usually 0.5–1.3 mm long; blade 6–20 mm long, c. 0.3 mm wide, subacute to obtuse, herbaceous, slender, thickly 1-nerved, pilose with simple and tubercle-based hairs, usually scabrous (especially on margins). Panicles 20–30 mm long, 20–40 mm wide, eglandular or weakly glandular. Glumes slightly exceeding florets, ovate-oblong, c. 1 mm long, obtuse to truncate, notched, denticulate on apical margins, muticous or mucronulate, 1-nerved. Lemma obovate, c. 0.8 mm long, notched, hyaline, strongly 1-nerved. Palea 2-keeled but nerveless. Caryopsis ellipsoid, 0.3–0.5 mm long, striate or wrinkled.
