Characteristics

Corolla 8.5–12 mm. long, campanulate, pinkish-white, lilac to reddish-purple, externally pubescent, narrowed at base into short tube, lobes rounded, finely ciliate.

Leaves opposite, 0.75–3.5(5) x 0.5–1.25 mm., filiform to narrowly linear, erect to spreading, strict to somewhat flexuous.
Flowers usually opposite, in open racemes, each subtended by a reduced leaf-like bract, pedicellate, bi-bracteolate.
Slender herb, 35–80 cm. tall; stem much-branched above rarely simple; minutely scabrid on all vegetative parts.
Capsule 2.5–3.5 x 2.8–3.5 mm., subglobose, slightly longitudinally compressed, glabrous, dark brown to black.
