Characteristics

Large epiphytes or lithophytes with long, fibrous stems and coarse, thick roots; plants sometimes climbing. Leaves widely spaced, leathery. Inflorescence racemose or paniculate, often short, arising from stem opposite leaf. Flowers often non-resupinate, facing outwards or to apex of raceme, whitish. Sepals and petals narrow, similar in shape and size. Dorsal sepal free. Lateral sepals attached to base of labellum. Petals often reflexed. Labellum fixed to base of column. Labellum lamina obscurely lobed, shoe-shaped, with deep basal spur. Column short, without basal foot. Pollinia 4, in 2 appressed pairs, hard, waxy, orange, attached via long, very narrow stipe to small viscidium.
