Leaf 200–600 × 6–8 mm. Inflorescence 400–900 mm long, 10–50-flowered. Flowers well-spaced, 5–6 × 2.5–3.5 mm, bright green, fragrant. Dorsal sepal c. 3 × 3 mm, obliquely erect. Lateral sepals c. 3 × 0.8 mm, inrolled. Petals linear, 2–2.5 × 0.7 mm, usually spreading widely, but often enclosed within dorsal sepal. Labellum appressed against ovary, oblong, 4–5 × 1.5–1.8 mm, thick-textured, margins with several cell-clusters, slightly constricted before expanding, apex blunt or shallowly notched. Basal callus of 2 dark green, fused mounds; apical callus raised, dark green.
Often common in moist to wet sites, even swamps; growing among grass and shrubs in heath, open forest, wet sclerophyll forest, montane grasslands and herbfields, occasionally flowering in standing water; in montane to subalpine areas it grows in moist grassland, seepage sites and sometimes in mounds of sphagnum moss; in S.A. it is recorded as growing on mounds of peat in swamps and bogs.
