Characteristics

Tall tree 20–50 m. high, buttressed at base; bark grey to brown, splitting into squares or rectangles.. Young branchlets sparsely puberulous to glabrous.. Leaves finely golden-puberulous when young; petiole and rhachis of mature leaves 25–45 cm. long; leaflets 12–19 pairs, narrowly oblong to lanceolate-oblong, (2.5–)3–8 cm. long, (1–)1.5–2.5 cm. wide, rounded to subcordate at base, obtusely pointed, rarely subacute at apex (apex itself sometimes slightly emarginate), sparsely and very inconspicuously appressed-puberulous beneath and often also above.. Flowers yellow-green, in racemes 1–4 cm. long (to 7 cm., fide Harms) borne on current growth below the leaves; pedicels 5–7(–10) mm. long.. Calyx ± 5–7 mm. in diameter before opening.. Fruits 4–5 cm. or more in diameter.. Seeds brown, thin-walled, ellipsoid, 4–7 cm. long, 2.5–3.5 cm. wide (mostly fide F.C.B.).. Fig. 52.
