Characteristics

Leaves 9–23-foliolate; petiole up to 9 cm long, rusty pubescent; rachis 3–21 cm long; leaflets 2–11(14) × 1.7–4 cm, oblong-lanceolate, or the lowest 3–6 × 2.5–4 cm, ovate, acuminate at the apex, rounded or even slightly subcordate at the base, sparsely pubescent or glabrous on upper surface except the main venation, rusty pubescent to velvety beneath; stipules 5–9 mm long, ligulate; petiolules 2–5 mm long, pubescent; stipels 1–5 mm long, filiform.

Standard 1.2–1.5 × 1.4–1.8 cm, rounded oblate, cordate at the base, without folds or appendages, white silky outside, with claw 3 mm long; blades of wings 10–11 × 5–7 mm, rounded oblong, with claw 7 mm long; blades of keel petals similar, 10–11 × 6–7 mm, with claw 5–6 mm long; both keel and wings pubescent only at the tip.
Inflorescences axillary, 21–35 cm long, including peduncle 4–10 cm long, rusty pubescent; cymule stalks up to 1.5 cm long or reduced to knobs, 1–4-flowered; pedicels 0.5–1 cm long, pubescent; bracteoles 1–2 mm long, oblong, usually well below the calyx base and often near the middle of the pedicels.
Seeds brown, c.1 cm in diameter, ellipsoid or round in outline, with white annular aril produced into a ligulate process appressed to the apically dilated funicle.
Stamen sheath 1.2–1.6 cm long; free parts of filaments 2–4 mm long; upper filament adhering at the middle only; anthers 8–10 mm long.
Ovary 6–9-ovuled, rusty pubescent; style 8–9 mm long, curved through 110° below the middle.
Pod brown, 10–12(16) × 1.8–2.5 cm, linear-oblong, glabrescent.
Calyx rusty pubescent; tube 4–5 mm long; teeth 1–2 mm long.
Young branches dark rusty pubescent.
Corolla blue or purplish-blue.
