Characteristics

Stems 30-60 cm tall, lanate. Leaves crowded and irregularly inserted on lower, non-flowering part of stem, verticillate at flowering nodes with internodes 2-3 cm long; leaves at flowering nodes not reduced in size. Leaf-lamina 24-47 x 2-6 mm, linear, acute at apex, obtuse at base; petiole 1-2 mm long; both surfaces lanate, the indumentum most conspicuous on the lower midrib. Flowers in fascicles of 3-4 at the distal 3-5 nodes; pedicels up to 20 mm long; flower colour unknown. Calyx segments c. 11 x 3.5 mm, dorsally and ventrally densely lanate pilose with a mixture of very fine patent hyaline and brown appressed hairs. Corolla lobes c. 14 x 7.5 mm, flat and spreading at anthesis; dorsal surface pilose with a mixture of patent hyaline and brown appressed hairs. Corona c. 5 mm high, the lobes similar in shape to those of M. laeve but the apical process reflexed to a horizontal position and lying in a groove along the top of the lobe, the free ends of the processes tending to curve to the right. Anther appendages 1 mm long, ± flat; corpusculum 0.9 mm long, strongly flanged; pollinium 1.1-1.5 mm long. Fruit 6-7 cm long, covered with bristles 6-8 mm long, they and the follicle surface densely whitish lanate. Seeds 2 mm long; coma white, c. 15 mm long.
