Characteristics

Annual herb, up to 0.6 m high; stems erect or ascending, mostly unbranched. Leaves up to 30 x 3 mm, linear to lanceolate or elliptic, ± sessile, entire. Flowers in a loose raceme or lower ones single and axillary. Calyx 5-lobed; lobes narrowly linear, of unequal length, longest equal to or overtopping corolla tube. Corolla 7-9 mm long, bilabiate; tube ± cylindrical, mouth wide but not gaping; pale or reddish pink to mauve with darker veins, throat with long yellow hairs. Flowering time Apr., Sept. Fruit an ovoid capsule, opening with 2 terminal pores.

An erect herb. It grows each year from seed. It grows 15-60 cm tall. The leaves are narrow and 1.5-6.5 cm long by 2-10 mm wide. The edges can be curved back. The flowers are white with a blue or pink tinge. The fruit is an oval capsule 7-9 mm long. It is dark brown.

Corolla 7–9 mm. long, whitish-pink to pink-purple with darker purple longitudinal venation, throat long-yellow-villous.
Calyx 4–8 mm. long, lobes to 0.3 mm. wide, linear, the longest half again as long as shortest, glandular-pubescent.
Pedicel 0.5–1.5 mm. long in flower becoming slightly longer in fruit, glandular-pubescent.
Inflorescence a lax-flowered raceme, or lower flowers appearing solitary and axillary.
Capsule 7–8 mm. long, brown, glandular-pubescent.
Seeds greyish-brown, c. 1 x 0.5 mm.
