Characteristics

Annual or perennial herb, erect, to 70 cm high. Stem scapiform; foliose part hispid, rarely glabrous; bracteate part glabrous. Leaves with upper two pairs whorled, lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate, 4–27 mm long, 2–8 mm wide, glabrous to hispid. Flowers in open or compact terminal and axillary compound umbellate clusters; pedicels to 8 mm long. Calyx campanulate, strongly 3-nerved to each lobe, glabrous; tube 1.2–1.7 mm long; lobes c. 1 mm long. Corolla white; tube 3–4.5 mm long; lobes 1–1.6 mm long. Stamens 1.6–2.6 mm long; filament bases swollen, sparsely pilose; anthers obtuse; dehiscence extrorse. Capsule globular, 2–3 mm long; fruiting style 0.5–2 mm long.
