Characteristics

Annual herb, erect, weak, to 30 cm high, hispidulous, with hairs usually retrorse. Stem foliose throughout; leaf pairs widely spaced. Leaves lanceolate, 4–10 mm long, 2–5 mm wide, glabrous or glabrescent. Flowers solitary, axillary and terminal; pedicels to 45 mm long. Calyx campanulate, glabrous; tube 1.5–1.9 mm long; lobes 1.5–2 mm long. Corolla white; tube 3.5–4 mm long; lobes 2.5–3 mm long. Stamen filaments partly adnate to tube, free part 2–2.5 mm long; anthers obtuse; dehiscence extrorse. Capsule globular, 2–3 mm long, upper part of horns often joined by a thin membrane; fruiting style c. 1 mm long. Seeds finely reticulate.
