Characteristics

Annual herb, rarely perennial, erect, to 70 cm high, glabrous or squamulose. Stem scapose. Leaves soon withering, lanceolate to elliptic, 4–6 mm long, 1.5–3 mm wide. Flowers in terminal and axillary simple and compound umbellate clusters; pedicels to 16 mm long. Calyx campanulate, the 3 nerves to each lobe thickened, often pustulate-squamulose between, rarely smooth throughout; tube c. 1.5 mm long; lobes c. 0.5 mm long. Corolla white with brown markings on base of tube; tube 7–8 mm long; lobes 4–5 mm long. Stamen filaments partly adnate to tube, free part c. 2.5 mm long, exserted; anthers obtuse; dehiscence latrorse. Capsule globular, c. 2.5 mm long, with upper part and horns finely scabrous-squamulose; fruiting style c. 7 mm long.
