Characteristics

Annual herb, erect, to 42 cm high, glabrous or squamulose. Stem (often ?rhizomatous), scapiform. Leaves lanceolate, 4–10 mm long, 1.5–4 mm wide. Flowers in terminal and axillary simple and compound umbellate clusters; pedicels to 40 mm long. Calyx cylindrical, glabrous; tube c. 2 mm long; lobes c. 1.5 mm long. Corolla white with yellow throat; tube 5–6.5 mm long; lobes 4–5.5 mm long. Stamens 2.5–4 mm long, rarely vestigial; anthers apiculate; dehiscence extrorse. Capsule c. 2 mm long, subglaucous; horns connate along their length, flattened in plane at 90° to septum; fruiting style including horns 2–3 mm long.
