Characteristics

Short-lived perennial or perhaps annual herb, erect, forming grass-like clumps, to 20 cm high. Stem scapiform, filiform, intricately branched, forming a small compact butt, glabrous. Leaves narrowed into a long scarious petiole, oblanceolate or spathulate, 5–30 mm long, 1–4 mm wide, pilose. Flowers solitary, terminal and axillary; pedicels to 20 mm long. Calyx campanulate, membranous, glabrous; tube c. 0.9 mm long; lobes c. 0.2 mm long. Corolla white; tube c. 2 mm long; lobes c. 0.6 mm long, truncate, shallowly 3-lobed. Stamens c. 1.5 mm long; filament bases expanded; anthers with a linear subplumose apical appendage ±as long as anther; dehiscence latrorse. Capsule ellipsoidal, c. 2 mm long; fruiting style 0.6–1 mm long.
