Characteristics

Annual herb, erect, to 40 cm high. Stem scapiform; foliose part pilose to glabrous; bracteate part glabrous, rarely sparsely woolly. Leaves narrowly lanceolate to linear, 10–35 mm long, 0.6–3 mm wide, hispid or nearly glabrous. Flowers in terminal and axillary simple and compound umbellate clusters; pedicels to 30 mm long. Calyx campanulate, glabrous; tube 0.7–1.5 mm long; lobes 0.5–1 mm long. Corolla off-white with irregular pale brown longitudinal streaks; tube 3.5–7 mm long; lobes 1–2.5 mm long. Stamens 2–4 mm long; filament bases slightly expanded with a tuft of white hairs; anthers obtuse; dehiscence extrorse. Capsule subglobular, 2–3 mm long; fruiting style 1.2–4 mm long.
