Characteristics

Annual herb, erect, to 20 cm high, glabrous or hispidulous, including calyx. Stem foliose throughout, terete to flattened or 4-angled. Leaves lanceolate to linear-pungent, 3–15 mm long, 0.4–2 mm wide. Flowers terminal and axillary, solitary or in few-flowered umbellate clusters; pedicels to 70 mm long. Calyx campanulate; tube 0.6–1.5 mm long; lobes 1–2 mm long, ciliate. Corolla all yellow or with lobes cream or white above and orange below; tube 3–5 mm long; lobes 2–3 mm long. Stamens 2.5–3.5 mm long; anthers minutely apiculate; dehiscence extrorse. Capsule c. 2 mm long; horns connate along their length, flattened in plane at 90° to septum; fruiting style including horns 2–3 mm long.
