Characteristics

Perennial herb with annual aerial stems, erect, to 39 cm high, glabrous, including calyx or rarely glabrescent. Stem leafless, bracteate. Flowers in terminal and axillary few-flowered umbellate clusters; pedicels to 30 mm long. Calyx campanulate to cylindrical, slightly glaucous; tube 1.5–3.2 mm long; lobes 0.5–1.5 mm long, rarely with sparsely ciliate margins. Corolla pure white; tube 6–9 mm long; lobes 2–7 mm long. Stamens 4–6 mm long; anthers obtuse or minutely apiculate; dehiscence extrorse. Capsule globular to ovoid, 3.5–4.5 mm long; fruiting style 3–4 mm long.
