Characteristics

Annual herb, erect, to 48 cm high, glabrous or glabrescent. Stem scapose, often with contracted leafy axillary shoots forming a dense multiple rosette. Leaves oblong, narrowly lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, 20–50 mm long, 2.5–10 mm wide. Flowers in contracted, many-flowered terminal and axillary simple or compound umbellate clusters; pedicels to 8 mm long. Calyx tube 1.5–2 mm long; lobes 0.5–1 mm long. Corolla white; tube 3–5 mm long; lobes 2–4 mm long. Free part of stamens 2–3.1 mm long. Capsule ellipsoidal, c. 2.5 mm long; fruiting style 4–5.5 mm long.
