Characteristics

Annual herb, erect, to 40 cm high, glabrous or rarely squamulose. Stem weak, sparsely foliaged, foliose throughout, 4-angled or 4-winged. Leaves narrowly lanceolate, 4–8 mm long, 0.8–2.8 mm wide. Flowers axillary, solitary; pedicels to 25 mm long, verrucose-squamulose. Calyx campanulate; tube 1–1.5 mm long; lobes 1.1–1.5 mm long, minutely serrulate, attenuate. Corolla white; tube 2–2.5 mm long; lobes c. 1 mm long. Stamens 1–1.8 mm long; anthers apiculate; dehiscence extrorse. Capsule globular to ellipsoidal, 2–3 mm long; fruiting style 0.6–0.8 mm long. Seeds brown, reticulate.
