Characteristics

Annual herb, erect or lax and decumbent, with stems to 70 cm long, glabrous to sparsely squamulose. Stem scapiform or foliose throughout. Leaves widely spaced, linear or narrowly lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, 4–16 mm long, 1.5–4 mm wide. Flowers terminal and axillary, solitary or in sparse umbellate clusters; pedicels to 150 mm long, often twining. Calyx campanulate, glabrous; tube c. 2 mm long; lobes 2–2.6 mm long. Corolla white, with yellow throat; tube 5–6 mm long; lobes 3–6 mm long. Stamens 3–4.5 mm long; anthers minutely apiculate; dehiscence extrorse. Capsule 2.5–3.5 mm long, glaucous; horns connate along their length, flattened in plane at 90° to septum; fruiting style including horns c. 2 mm long.
