Characteristics

Sparsely branched, succulent shrub, up to 200 mm tall, sclerotic sheaths in side view obconical, rims of old sclerotic sheaths spreading. First leaf-pair forming a nearly spherical corpuscle up to 10 mm diam., second leaf-pair ± 100 x 3-5 mm. Flowers solitary, up to 45 mm diam., pedicels up to 100 mm long, petals usually white, sometimes suffused with red. Fruit 5(6)-locular.
