Characteristics

Leaf-lamina 5–10 × 2·5–5·5 cm., elliptic to oblong or obovate, obtuse to emarginate at the apex, rounded to slightly cordate at the base; upper surface finely reticulate, typically bullate in the angles made by the lateral nerves and midrib (with a corresponding depression on the lower face), glabrous except sometimes for the midrib and lateral nerves, viscid from numerous punctiform yellow glands; lower surface concolorous, puberulous with very minute curled or coiled meso-pachydermatous hairs mixed with some straight ones on the nerves and reticulation, the interreticular areoles generally glabrous; midrib and lateral nerves slightly depressed above and prominent beneath; lateral nerves in 8–13 pairs (with a strong tendency to the formation of short subsidiaries), nearly straight but incurved at the apex without reaching the margin of the leaf; veins and reticulation not very prominent but quite conspicuous.

A shrub or small tree. It grows 8 m tall. The leaves are 5-10 cm long by 2.5-5.5 cm wide. The flowering shoots are 1.5-3 cm long and in the axils of leaves. The fruit are 1-1.5 cm across. They have wings.
Fruit 1–1·5 cm. in diam., subglobose, rounded to conical at the apex, sericeous; wings 2·5–3·5 × 1·2–1·6 cm., yellowish or brownish, elliptic to obovate.
Inflorescences 1·5–3 cm. long, axillary, ± condensed or lax, few-flowered, fulvous-tomentellous; peduncle 1-5–3 cm. long, slender; pedicels 3–8 mm. long.
Shrub or small tree up to 8 m. high; branchlets greyish or brownish, glabrous.
Stamens with anthers produced into a large emarginate or triangular lobe.
Petals 8 mm. long, densely greyish-subsericeous-tomentose.
Sepals 2 mm. long, densely woolly-rufous-tomentose.
