Characteristics

Leaf-lamina 4–8 × 2·5–4 cm., elliptic to oblong or obovate-oblong, obtuse to emarginate at the apex, rounded to slightly cordate at the base; upper surface finely reticulate, somewhat shining, tomentellous when young, soon becoming subglabrous, with minute simple or penicillate scattered hairs and numerous punctiform glands; lower surface discolorous, greyish-or fulvous-silvery-tomentellous with relatively short dense curled hairs on the nerves and reticulation hiding the interreticular areoles, which are densely covered with minute stellate hairs; midrib prominent beneath; lateral nerves in 9–15 pairs, curving towards the apex just before and without reaching the margin of the leaf; veins and reticulation not very prominent but quite conspicuous; petiole 1–2 cm. long, slender.

Fruit 1·5 cm. in diam., subglobose, rounded at the apex, cottony-tomentellous; wings 3–4·5 × 1·5–2·5 cm., yellowish, broadly oblong to obovate, with penicillate hairs outside and inside.
Inflorescences 2·5–3 cm. long, axillary, more or less condensed, few-flowered, greyish-or fulvous-tomentose, on a peduncle 1–3 cm. long; pedicels 1–3 mm. long.
Shrub or small tree up to 7 m. high; branchlets greyish-to rufous-tomentose, very soon glabrous.

Petals 10 mm. long, densely greyish-subsericeous-tomentose.
