Characteristics

Tree 12–20 m. tall; stems slender, soon glabrous, with corrugated fissured brown bark.. Leaf-blades oblong-elliptic, 6–8 cm. long, 3.5–5.5 cm. wide, rounded at base and apex or slightly subcordate, densely puberulous above with very short curly hairs and minutely glandular beneath with raised venation and midrib drying reddish brown, quite visible but with scattered long and short hairs, the ultimate venation reticulate with small areoles but not minute as in M. elegans nor with venation anastomosing so characteristically, the general appearance slightly glaucous due to areoles covered with very dense shiny microhairs and over the whole surface a scattered but in places quite dense covering of long tangled cottony hairs originating from the sides of the veinlets; petioles ± 1.5 cm. long.. Inflorescences axillary and terminal, made up of elements ± 2 cm. long, 3 cm. wide; axes velvety pale brown tomentose and with longer hairs; pedicels 0.5–1 cm. long.. Sepals ovate, 2.5 mm. long, 2.2 mm. wide, densely tomentose.. Corolla white; petals 8 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, densely silky-tomentose outside, with more sparse hairs within at base.. Anthers with small rhomboid connective appendages.. Fruits not seen.
