Characteristics

Plants 250-1200 mm high. Corms 10-20 mm diam.; tunics of pale to dark brown, medium to coarse fibres. Stem simple or more often branched from upper axil, branches slender, held away from main axis, sheathing leaves with dry, brown, long attenuate tips, 50-70 mm long. Foliage leaf solitary, basal, channelled, 4-7 mm wide, exceeding stem, often trailing distally, sometimes with a large axillary cormlet. Rhipidial spathes green, sometimes brown in upper half, with dry attenuate apices, inner (30-)40-70 mm long, outer ± half as long. Flowers long-lived, white to pale creamy yellow, outer tepal limbs with brown to yellow-speckled nectar guides at bases, spreading, outer tepal claws yellow-speckled ± black, inner tepals ± brown, faintly vanilla-scented; outer tepals 17-30 x ± 15 mm, claws ± > 1/2 as long as limbs, 3-5 mm wide at midpoint, pubescent, inner tepals 10-12 mm long (excluding central cusp), 3-lobed, lateral lobes obtuse, central lobe slender, obliquely coiled inward, 3-5 mm long. Filaments 6-7 mm long, united in lower 2/3 to almost entirely in minutely papillate column; anthers ± 5 mm long. Ovary ± ellipsoid-ovoid, 8-12 mm long; style branches 4-7 mm long, crests 4-7 mm long. Capsules club-shaped, (12-)18-25 mm long. Seeds angular, prismatic.
