Lianas or subshrubs; branches surrounded at base by persistent leafless stipules, when young hirtellous or hispidulous, becoming glabrescent, angled, purplish blue. Leaves opposite; petiole 3-5 mm, hirtellous; blade drying papery, adaxially greenish brown or dark brown, abaxially brownish gray, obovate, elliptic-oblanceolate, elliptic, or rhombic-lanceolate, rarely dimorphic, 4-9(-12) × 1.5-3.5 cm, adaxially pilosulous to glabrescent, abaxially glabrous to densely hirtellous at least on principal veins, base cuneate, apex acute, acuminate, or obtuse then abruptly mucronulate; secondary veins 5-7 pairs; stipules fused into a tube, truncate. Inflorescence terminal; peduncles 7-10, umbellate or fasciculate, 10-15 mm, pilosulous; heads 1 per peduncle, 3-11-flowered. Flowers fused at base, biology not noted. Calyx limb reduced, truncate or perhaps sometimes with 1 calycophyll. Corolla campanulate, mealy puberulent outside; tube ca. 2 mm, internally densely bearded; lobes 4 or 5, sublanceolate, ca. 3 mm.
