Characteristics

Trees. Leaves imparipinnate, more or less persistent, the leaflets opposite or subopposite; lamina of leaflets subcoriaceous, glabrate to soft-pubescent above and below, entire. Panicles arising from the upper leaf-axils, the branches spicate. Flowers small, mostly a ; sepals 5, free, persistent, imbricate; petals 5, imbricate in bud; stamens 5, inserted at the margin of the disc; ovary 1-locular, the ovule affixed laterally near the base of the locule, the style terminal, short, 3-branched near the apex, the stigmas 3. Drupes obliquely ovoid, compressed; seed latero-basal, small (occupy-ing only a small portion of the fruit lumen).
