Characteristics

Perennial shrub or dwarf shrub, stems pubescent, leafy, 0.3-1.5 m high. Leaves fasciculate, crowded or somewhat distant; stiff, straight or reflexed, thick, linear, channelled, spine-tipped. Bracts concave, rotundate or broadly ovate, obtuse, ciliate, midrib evident, sometimes mucronate. Flowers sessile, pale pink or white. Sepals elliptical, ciliate, midrib prominent green, lateral veins evident. Side petals widest about fleshy middle, shorter than carina. Flowering time July-Oct. Fruit a broad capsule, with acute tapering horns, ± as long capsule. Seed ellipsoidal, hispid.
