Characteristics

A branched shrub, 30-60 cm high. Stems hispid or pubescent. Leaves fasciculate, pungent: the primary 8.0-10.0 mm long, acicular, channelled, patent, sometimes recurved, shortly hispid along the margin and on the prominent midrib below: the secondary similar but smaller, straight. Bracts 1.0-1.5 mm long, broadly oblong, concave, obtuse, sometimes shortly mucronate, the midrib evident, ciliolate. Flowers 4.5-5.5 mm long, pale pink, sessile. Sepals elliptical apiculate acute minutely ciliate: the outer concave: the inner almost flat, slightly longer than the outer, a little shorter than the side petals. Side petals linear widened slightly near the middle, obtuse, about as long as the carina. Claw of the carina about as long as the limb, the limb with a conspicuous swelling on either side: the line of attachment of the crest oblique, the width of the crest slightly less than the length of the carina, the upper lobes larger than the lower. Ovary with well-developed acute horns: the style stout, the anterior branch obtuse, small, the posterior very short, the stigma almost sessile. Capsule rather broad, with acute somewhat leaf-like horns, minutely scabrous along the margin, glabrous elsewhere, the horns as long as or slightly shorter than the capsule. Seed ellipsoidal, hispid, the hairs caducous, the caruncle with small membranous lobes on the adaxial side.
