Characteristics

Perennial, erect or spreading, prickly, branched shrub, tomentose on young parts, 0.1-1.5 m high. Leaves in crowded fascicles, hairy when young, ovate to subulate, spine-tipped. Flowers axillary, pale to deep pink, sessile. Sepals glabrous, ciliate, outer pair ovate, concave, inner pair oblong. Side petals linear, ± as long as carina. Flowering time Oct.-May. Fruit a capsule without horns, obcordate. Seed broadly ellipsoidal.
