Characteristics

Plants to 1.3 m tall. Leaves: ligule to 0.7 mm long, truncate, glabrous; auricles ±thickened, tufted; blade expanded or loosely rolled, 3.5–4 mm wide, ciliate on margins, otherwise glabrous. Inflorescence exserted, 25–35 cm long, contracted. Glumes subequal, acute to acuminate; lower glume 8–10 mm long; upper glume 9–9.5 mm long. Callus 2–2.5 mm long, weakly bent at tip, densely sericeous. Lemma 5.5–6 mm long, with lobes 0.1–0.2 mm long, scabrous with crystalline tubercules, glabrous or with hairs only on ribs; corona 0.5–0.8 mm long, with spines c. 0.1 mm long on upper margin; awn c. 50 mm long, once-or twice-geniculate, with pubescent column c. 30 mm long. Palea 20–25% of length of lemma.
