Characteristics

Terrestrial herbs with small ovoid or ellipsoid tubers and an erect leafy stem terminating in a few-flowered inflorescence. Leaves 1 or 2 together at the base, the remainder spaced out along the stem, lanceolate or linear. Flowers usually rather laxly arranged, nearly sessile. Sepals subequal, free from one another, with numerous veins. Petals as long as the sepals, very oblique, attached in lower part along their dorsal margin to the column. Lip simple or 3-lobed, sessile, neither saccate nor spurred at the base, but with a callus in the lower part. Column erect, rather slender; anther-loculi parallel; pollinia granular, caudicles short, viscidia rather large, naked; stigma cushion-like, 2-lobed, rostellum middle lobe small, erect, cucullate.
