Characteristics

Perennial, aquatic herb, rootstock thick, floating stolons ± 0.5 m long, few. Leaves in a rosette on the rootstock, or alternate along floating stolons; blade circular, with a sinus at base. Flowers 5-20, clustered at nodes, pedicellate, subtended by small bracts; heterostylous. Sepals triangular. Petals mostly fimbriate inside, pale yellow. Flowering time Dec.-Apr. Capsule developing under water, ± ovoid, less than 10-seeded. Seeds lenticular, ± tuberculate.
