Annual herb to 1 m or more high. Stems erect, simple or few-branched, with a dense indumentum of glandular and long, fine, spreading hairs. Leaves usually ovate-elliptic, 2–12.5 cm long, 0.5–4 cm wide, acuminate, ±sinuately and minutely denticulate. Inflorescence dense, to c. 40 cm long. Flowers actinomorphic, opening near sunset and fading by morning. Petals less than 2 mm long. Fruit narrowly ellipsoidal, to c. 1 cm long and c. 2 mm wide, terete, somewhat ridged but without conspicuous angles.
