Robust erect densely appressed-pubescent biennial to 2 m tall; leaves elliptic to broadly lanceolate, appressed-pubescent; rosette leaves narrower near the base, sinuate-pinnatifid to denticulate, 6-20 cm long and 2-4 cm wide their petioles 2-6 cm long; cauline leaves denticulate, 5-12 cm long and 2-3.5 cm wide, short-petioled below to subsessile above; flowers opening near sunset; mature buds erect-hypanthium 6-11 cm long; sepals 4-6 cm long, with free tips 3-6 mm long; petals yellow, fading reddish, 3.5-5 cm long; capsule thick, cylindric, 2-5 cm long; seeds in 2 rows in each locule, 1.5-2 mm long.
