Characteristics

Annual herb to c. 1 m high, with a long fine soft pubescence. Stems rather woody, often branching at a wide angle. Leaves all cauline, narrowly to very narrowly lanceolate-elliptic or tapering from base, 3–5 cm long, 2–5 cm wide, with regular wide-spaced and shallow teeth and a long-tapering acute apex. Flowers solitary in upper leaf axils. Hypanthium usually 2–5 cm long. Sepals c. 1 cm long. Petals 1–2 cm long, yellow, ageing reddish. Capsule subcylindrical or broader in upper part, often somewhat curved, usually c. 2.5 cm long and 3–4 mm wide, villous.
