Tree to ca. 20 m; young stems greyish to yellowish tomentulose. Leaves 7-1 1-foliolate; rachis 14-40 cm long, tomentulose; petiole 7-12 cm long; petiolules 5-10 mm long; leaflets coriaceous, elliptical, ovate, or obovate, 15-22 cm long, 6.0-11.0 cm wide, the apex obtuse, short acuminate, the base rounded to cordate, the margin sometimes revolute, glabrous above, finely and tightly crisped-pubes-cent beneath. Inflorescence terminal, the axes yellowish tomentulose. Flowers purplish, 15-17 mm long; calyx 8-10 mm long, yellowish to reddish tomentulose, 5-lobed, the teeth 4-6 mm long. Fruit dehiscent, subligneous or coriaceous, gla-brate, black to dark brown, 1-3-seeded, 2-5 cm long, 1.5-2.5 cm broad; seeds bicolored, red with a black spot; 10-13 mm long, 9-11 mm wide, 7-8 mm thick.
Forests, especially along the sides of rivers, in areas subject to seasonal inundation. Wet or very humid forests at low to medium elevations.
Can be grown by seedlings. Seeds needs soaking.
