Characteristics

Corm ovoid-subglobose with yellowish or brown tunics. Cataphyll apically dilated, truncate and mucronate, or acute. Stem simple or branched, rising up to 20 cm above ground-level. Leaves 2-4, linear to narrowly lanceolate, 5-20 cm long, up to 2 cm wide, with flat or undulate margins. Raceme overtopping the leaves, few-to many-flowered. Lower bracts leaf-like, up to 8 cm long and 1 cm wide; upper bracts successively smaller and shorter than the pedicels. Pedicels 1-5 cm long, becoming spreading-recurved or reflexed. Perianth actinomorphic with all segments spreading-reflexed. Tepals 6-15 mm long; claw short, up to 1.5 mm long, adaxially light-coloured; blade lanceolate, 1-2.5 mm wide, green and/or purple. Nectary margin simple, as wide as the claw. Filaments 2-5 mm long, arcuately curved, ± swollen below the middle. Anthers 1-2 mm long. Styles 3.5-6 mm long. Ovary oblong-rounded. Capsule 1-3 cm long, elliptic-oblong or somewhat pear-shaped. Seeds ± globose, 1.5-4 mm in diam., brown, smooth or somewhat rugose.
