Scales ovate, up to 1 cm. long, reddish brown.. Inflorescence terminally rounded, from somewhat lax to very dense.. Calyx sessile, split dorsally and ventrally, straw-coloured with darker veins.. Corolla whitish yellow, up to 18 mm. long, the lobes of the limb with purplish tips, markedly swollen after fertilization and very constricted above the ovary, gently curved outward or becoming straight; upper lip bilobed, porrect, shallowly crenate-dentate; lower lip with subequal, rounded to rounded-acuminate lobes.. Stamens inserted 5–7 mm. from the base of the tube; filaments and anthers usually glabrous.. Style glabrous; stigma bilobed, whitish, warted.. Capsules ovoid-ellipsoid, the valves remaining apically united when ripe.
