Characteristics

Frutex procumbens vel adscendens divaricate ramosus; ramuli dense albido-tomentosi rigidi nunc plurimi nunc pauci in spinas transformati, rami vestustiores robusti glabrati cortice cinereo vel cinereofusco rimoso obtecti. Folia alterna (rarius pauca subopposita) etiam adulta tomento floccoso-arachnoideo vestita petiolata, petiolis 0.3-1.5 cm longis, vel in parte ramulorum superiore subsessilia; lamina parum carnosa obovata-ovata-elliptica 1-3 cm longa 0.5-2.5 cm lata apice rotundata vel obtusa vel rarius subacuta calloso-mucronulala basin versus sensim vel rarius abrupte angustata margine remote dentata vel serrato-dentata vel pauca integerrima; nervus medius conspicuus subtus elevatus, nervi laterales 2(-4) anastomosantes in foliis vetustioribus saepe conspicui. Capitula in apicibus ramulorum solitaria (rarissime in corymbum paucicapitulatum disposita) pedunculata; pedunculi capitulorum dense albido-lanati bracteis paucis lineari-subulatis sursum in squamas involucri transeuntibus instructi, capitulis post fructificationem vulgo mox delapsis, spinam formantes. Involucrum hemisphaericum 6-8 mm altum; squamae 2-3-seriatae dorso arachnoideolanatae apice acutae-acuminatae, exteriores breviores lineari-lanceolatae margine vix scariosae, interiores oblongae-ovatae margined; late scariosae. Receptaculum convexiusculum ± dense albo-lanatum. Flores radii 7-10; ligulae flavae involucrum plus duplo superantes; flores disci flavi involucro fere aequilongi. Putamina dura sublaevia obovoidea-ellipsoidea 5-7 mm longa 3.5-4.5 mm diam.
