Characteristics

Perennial, densely branched, leafy shrub, up to 2 m high; often erect when growing in sheltered and moist areas; stems pubescent or subcanescent. Leaves trifoliolate, subsessile. Leaflets widely obovate or obcordate, mucronate, prominently nigro-punctate in dried specimens. Stipules ciliate, membranous. Inflorescences of sessile, terminal spikes, densely many-flowered; bracts membranous. Calyx: lobes acuminate. Petals varying from white to purplish blue. Flowering time Nov.-Apr.
