Characteristics

A suffruticose, about 3 metres high. Stems slender, ascending, pubescent. Leaves trifoliolate. petiolate, stipulate; petioles up to 1.5 cm long, striate, pubescent; leaflets 0.7-4.2 cm long, 0.4-1.5 cm broad, broadly obovate, mucronulate, villous, becoming glabrescent; a few of the upper leaflets linear to ovate-linear. Stipules adnate to the base of the petiole, up to 1.3 cm long, subulate or lanceolate, acute, hispid, ciliate. Inflorescence terminal, and axillary, spicate. Peduncles 5.5-16 cm long, hirsute. Flowers sub-sessile, each subtended by a bract. Bracts ovate or linear, acute. Calyx-tube 3-4 mm long, 5-6 mm in diameter, with dark and reticulate veins, densely albo-hirsute, lobes albo-hirsute, glabrous on the inner surface; upper and lateral lobes 3-8 mm long, 0.5-1 mm broad, linear-lanceolate; lowest lobe 5-9 mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm broad, reticulately veined, ovate-lanceolate. Vexillum 0.6-1.2 cm long, 5-7 mm broad, obovate, with a channelled claw 0.5-3 mm long; alae 6-9 mm long, 1.5-3 mm broad, with a linear claw 1-4.5 mm long; carina 3-5 mm long, 1-2 mm broad, with a linear claw 4-5 mm long. Ovary glabrous; style 6 mm long, glabrous.
