Characteristics

Leaves simple, stalked, alternate, obovate-elliptic or ovate-oblong, obtuse or retuse, coriaceous, penninerved, glabrous and reticulate above, whitish-tomentose with reddish veins beneath; panicles terminal; branches divaricate; pedicels and calyces thinly puberulous; drupe sub-fleshy, reniform, compressed. Branches rugose, grayish, alternate or opposite. Leaves 1.5-2 inches long. Very like the preceding, but differs by the reticulated leaves, glabrous above, the shorter panicle with divaricate branches, the larger pentamerous flowers; and essentially by the smaller, compressed, reniform, sub-fleshy fruit, about 5-6 lines broad, 3-4 lines long.

Evergreen, hard-leaved tree, up to 5 m tall. Leaves crowded at branch tips, elliptic, bright green and smooth above, covered with matted fine grey hairs with yellow tinge below, midrib thick, lateral veins ± equally conspicuous on both surfaces, dividing just before margin and then slightly less evident. Flowers small, creamy white. Fruit kidney-shaped, 10-13 mm wide, turning black and wrinkled.
