Characteristics

Leaves from alternate (the lowest) to approximate or verticillate (the uppermost); petiole 1·5–4 cm. long, slender, usually c. 1 mm. in diam., glabrous or sparsely and shortly appressed-pubescent; lamina green and shining above (olive-green to brownish-green when dried), glabrous above, silvery-sericeous below, broadly elliptic (2·7–9 × 1·5–5·5 cm.) or subcircular (3–6·5 cm. in diam.), rounded and emarginate or shortly apiculate or mucronate (mucro 1–2 mm. long) at the apex, rounded or somewhat acute at the base, chartaceous; midrib slightly raised above, very prominent beneath; lateral nerves very slender, in 20–30 pairs 1–3 mm. apart, straight, at an angle of 70°–80° with the midrib, slightly prominent and lighter in colour than the lamina above, a little more raised and yellowish beneath; reticulation not visible.
