Characteristics

Leaves alternate or opposite or sub-3-verticillate; petiole 2·5–6·5 cm. long, dorsally convex, furrowed at the top, compressed and widened towards the base, glabrous and cinnamon-coloured or shortly appressed-pubescent and ± cinereous; lamina very discolorous when dried (olive-green, light green or yellow-green, shining and glabrous above, silvery-greenish-sericeous due to short dense appressed whitish hairs beneath), 6·5–17 × 1·9–4 cm., lanceolate-attenuate, very acute and usually falcate at the cuspidate apex, with the margin slightly thickened, usually rounded at the base, papyraceous or coriaceous; midrib impressed or a little raised above, very prominent beneath, lateral nerves slender, usually straight, at right angles to the midrib towards the leaf base, 2–6 mm. apart, forked just near the margin, ± raised on both surfaces; reticulation not or slightly impressed above and slightly raised beneath.
