Characteristics

Leaves in whorls of 5–10 or subverticillate, the basal ones alternate; petiole 1–6 mm. long; lamina discolorous, glabrous, almost black (when dried) and shining above and silvery-sericeous below (covered by short appressed whitish hairs), 2·5–16 × 0·1–0·2 cm., acicular, upright, the floral ones somewhat falcate, very rigid, acute and mucronate, with the margins revolute; midrib impressed on the upper surface yellowish-appressed-pubescent, and very prominent beneath; lateral nerves and reticulation not visible on either surface.

Inflorescences up to 3 cm. long, in the upper leaf-axils, the uppermost ones verticillate and leafless, with puberulous axis and branches.
Drupe black, shining, 7·5 × 8 mm., broadly obovate, truncate, much compressed.
Petals c. 2·5 × 1 mm., oblong, inflexed at the apex, sericeous outside.
Filaments 1·5 mm. long, anthers c. 0·75 mm. long.
