Characteristics

Tuberous-rooted perennial, tuber as long as stem or longer. Stem 220-500 mm tall, slender to stout, simple or branched at the base with two or more stems arising from the same tuber, ± glabrous to scabrous or pubescent, hairs often bifarious. Leaves ascending-spreading; petiole 3-14 mm long; blade 43-106 x 21-56 mm, narrowly ovate, narrowly oblong or narrowly elliptic to ovate, oblong or elliptic, margins scabrous, ± glabrous to scabrous or pubescent above, pubescent or scabrous below. Inflorescence umbellate, 2-4-flowered, sessile or subsessile to shortly pedunculate, at nodes and terminal; peduncles 0-20 mm long, pubescent or scabrous. Bracts 4-12 mm long, narrowly linear, acute-acuminate, glabrous above, pubescent below. Pedicels 10-40 mm long, scabrous or densely pubescent, sometimes with hairs only on one side. Sepals 9-15 x 2.5-8.0 mm, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, acute, rarely acuminate, glabrous or slightly pubescent-scabrous towards the tip above, pubescent below. Corolla 14-26 mm long, lobed almost to the base; lobes reflexed spreading or straight back, 10-21 x 6-16 mm, oblong-lanceolate, elliptic or ovate, obtuse, margins revolute and often rolled back from the tips, light green or greenish-white, outer surface often spotted lightly with dull purple-brown flecks, usually with minute soft velvet-like hairs above, glabrous or slightly pubescent below. Corona lobes 12-23 mm long, with an oblong-linear base, spreading horizontally with a pair of contiguous, oblong, wing-like keels, 1.3-3.5 x 3.0-6.0 mm, always as broad as or broader than high, beyond the keels the lobe contracted into a narrow, upcurved claw and then dilated into a lanceolate, ovate, elliptic or suborbicular blade, rarely transversely oblong, 4.0-9.0 mm broad, margins often undulate, the blade and claw 6-12(-15) mm long, apex acute, acuminate or the apical part of the blade cuneate, truncate or cuspidate with a linear appendage-like point at the apex, linear point 3-7 mm long, blade upcurved or incurved over the keels, usually with the sides folded back, lobes light dull green in colour. Anther wings 4.2-7.2 mm long, very concave with upcurved and diverging basal angles; appendages 2.8-4.8 mm long, broadly ovate, obtuse tip in-flexed over and ± covering the style apex. Follicle 100-110 x 40-58 mm, subglobose, or ellipsoid, obtuse, glabrous, narrowly winged, green with purple-brown flecks.
