Characteristics

Stem 220-500 mm tall, slender to stout, either simple or branched at the base with many branches arising from the same rootstock, ± glabrous to scabrous or pubescent, hairs frequently bifarious. Leaves ascending-spreading; petioles 3-12 mm long; blade 35-92 x 8-31 mm, linear or linear-lanceolate to lanceolate or narrowly ovate, scabrous, glabrous or puberculous above, puberulous to scabrous or pubescent below, midvein scabrous, margins usually undulating. Inflorescence umbellate, 3-9(-12)-flowered, sessile or shortly pedunculate at nodes and terminal; peduncles 0-10(-23) mm long, pubescent, hairs sometimes bifarious. Bracts 2-14 mm long, narrowly linear or lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous above, pubescent below. Pedicels 7-15 mm long, pubescent. Sepals 8-14 x 3.2-5.0 mm, lanceolate or narrowly ovate, acute or shortly acuminate, rarely long acuminate, glabrous above, pubescent below. Corolla 9-15 mm long, broadly cup-shaped or subglobose, lobed nearly to the base, apparently `pale-greenish stained with purple down the back', glabrous or with minute hairs and velvet-like above, glabrous to puberulous below; lobes 8.0-3.0 x 4.9-7.8 mm, narrowly ovate, ovate or elliptic, apex obtuse and notched, often slightly recurved, margins imbricate below and slightly revolute towards the apex. Corona lobes 5.2-8.5 mm long, linear claw-like base, 1.0-3.0 x 1.0-2.8 mm, spreading horizontally at first and then curving upwards and inwards towards the staminal column, basal part without keels or appendages, apical half dilated into a rhomboid or orbicular blade, apex obtuse, base cuneate, 4.2-5.5 x 4.0-7.0 mm, always 2 to 7 times broader than the base, sometimes trilobed, the lobes linear-deltoid, obtuse, the centre lobe 1.5-3.2 mm long, lateral lobes 1.0-2.8 mm long; `dark chocolate-coloured'. Anther wings 2.0-2.7 mm long, vertical, outer margin straight; appendages 1.6-3.0 mm long, very broadly ovate, acute, ± erect at first and then curved over the style apex. Follicles 65-97 x 30 mm, narrowly ovoid, subacute, ± truncate, 6-winged, wings often irregularly toothed, glabrous.
